2010-2011 Season at a Glance

Lucia di Lammermoor, by Donizetti

November 20, 24, 26, 2010

This grand dramatic masterpiece of intrigue, deception and madness is set on the land between Edinburgh and the North Sea.That such a violent, tragic story is told with so fine an example of bel canto singing attests to the genius of Donizetti. Drawing from the romantic folklore and mythology of the original novel by Sir Walter Scott, Lucia di Lammermoor is the pawn in a political feud. In love with the penniless Edgardo di Ravenswood, she is driven to madness by her scheming brother Lord Enrico Ashton and his dynastic match for her, Lord Arturo Bucklaw. Be swept away by the wave of emotion that is Lucia di Lammermoor.

The Inventor, by Tovey/Murrell *world premiere*

January 29, February 2, 4, 2011

John Murrell, librettist for the unforgettable historical opera Filumena, once again turns his operatic hand to the themes of greed and crime, this time with composer Bramwell Tovey. The Inventor is the true tale of a 19th century deceiver and international con man whose get rich quick schemes destroy the lives of his family, friends, strangers and eventually his own self. Sandy Keith Jr. repeatedly re-invents himself to escape the perceived injustices of his youth and elude the consequences of his arrogant sense of entitlement. His fugitive existence spirals to the volatile ending of the opera. Get caught up in the tragedy of self destruction.

Aida, by Verdi
April 9, 13, 15, 2011

Before the grand pageantry of Hollywood’s Cleopatra or The Ten Commandments, there was Verdi’s Aida. Set in the Egypt of the Pharaohs, this vast, sweeping saga of love, loyalty and treason is an operatic tour de force which stirs the emotions like few others. The conflicted love triangle of Aida the servant girl, Radames the soldier, and Amneris the princess combines with the sumptuous music of Verdi for an evening that will long be remembered. Experience the powerful triumph that is Aida.
