Meet the opera stars of tomorrow

Each season, Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Development Program provides up to eight young singers with the opportunity to study and perform under a highly prestigious professional staff of teachers and performers.  This program acts as a bridge between post-secondary education and the professional opera world.

We thrive with your support.

Ticket sales cover about a third of the cost of producing live opera, even on sold-out shows. We rely on government funding, sponsorships from corporations, and charitable donations to ensure that opera is alive and well for our community.

Building generations of opera lovers.

Education programs are an essential part of what we do, enriching the experiences of our current patrons and building audiences for tomorrow through our student and young people outreach. This includes great programs like Let’s Create an Opera that gives students the opportunity to create their own original opera and the Opera in Schools Tour that brings one-act operas into schools performed by Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artists.

Opera in the Village

It's a wrap for yet another successful summer of Opera in the Village! Thank you to everyone who came out to support Canada's only outdoor opera festival, we couldn't have done it without you.

We hope to see you with us at the Jubilee this winter for the remainder of our powerful & exciting season. We look forward to inviting you to return to Opera In The Village in summer 2015!

CANDIDE – MAIN STAGE TENT

The centrepiece of Opera in the Village 2014 is Leonard Bernstein’s comic masterpiece Candide in our 900-seat big top tent. A scandalously funny romp in a festival atmosphere. Click here for more information.

In addition to Candide we will be presenting family matinees of an hour-long adaptation of Hansel & Gretel. The perfect introduction to opera for children aged 5 and up, this show will have the whole family cheering along. Click here for more information.

An opera-to-go experience on the Side Stage on RiverWalk Plaza. Join us for your favourite opera hits performed by talented alumni of Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Program.

Feel the breeze, take in the river view and enjoy a cold pint or a refreshing cider before or after the performance. The most fun you can have drinking beer on the Bow... legally. The Big Rock Patio is open when the Festival site is active.

KARAOKE NIGHTS

Doesn’t an opera festival make you want to sing? Here’s your chance. Leave your inhibitions at the door and enjoy some freewheeling Karaoke nights in the Big Rock Patio.

So You Think You Can Sing Musical Theatre! – Side Stage

Unfortunately due to the rainy & cold forecast, our outdoor movie nights have been cancelled. Calgary Opera puts the safety of their guests at the top of their priority list, and we want to ensure all attendees have a pleasant experience.

A mini presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado performed by the children enrolled in Calgary Opera’s summer opera camp.
