Meet the opera stars of tomorrow

Each season, Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Development Program provides up to eight young singers with the opportunity to study and perform under a highly prestigious professional staff of teachers and performers.  This program acts as a bridge between post-secondary education and the professional opera world.

Enbridge believes in making communities culturally vibrant through investments in the arts. We thank them for their generous support of our Emerging Artist program.

2015 Opera Gala Tickets are Now On-Sale 2015 Opera Gala - Go behind-the-scenes on the set of Carmen and be transported to the streets of Seville and enjoy an elegant dining experience in a transformed lobby of the Jubilee Auditorium.

We thrive with your support.

Ticket sales cover about a third of the cost of producing live opera, even on sold-out shows. We rely on government funding, sponsorships from corporations, and charitable donations to ensure that opera is alive and well for our community.

Building generations of opera lovers.

Education programs are an essential part of what we do, enriching the experiences of our current patrons and building audiences for tomorrow through our student and young people outreach. This includes great programs like Let’s Create an Opera that gives students the opportunity to create their own original opera and the Opera in Schools Tour that brings one-act operas into schools performed by Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artists.

Talisman Energy believes the arts can make a positive difference to the lives of young people. We thank them for their generous support of our Education programs.

2014-2015 Dress Rehearsal Performances

Silent Night
Thursday, November 6, 2014 7pm

It was the most miraculous of moments in the bloodiest of wars. Inspired by true events, Silent Night tells a story of a short-lived spontaneous 1914 Christmas truce between enemy combatants on the western front in World War I as weapons are laid down when Scottish, French and German officers defy their superiors and negotiate a Christmas Eve truce. Enemies become brothers as they come together to share Christmas and bury their dead. It is a moving, dramatic and thought-provoking work.

The Marriage of Figaro
Thursday, January 29, 2015 7pm

The music of genius coupled with brilliant characterization, a superb plot and wonderful dramatization, The Marriage of Figaro is both a wonderful adventure story of danger and disguise, and a tableau of raw lust, impassioned naivety and sublime resignation. Its bubbling overture, its brilliantly crafted arias—which give insights into the personalities of the characters who sing them—and its lively and intricate ensemble scenes will win the hearts of all who witness it.

Thursday, April 16, 2015 7pm

It is the fieriest of operas featuring the most intriguing of characters. A naïve soldier is seduced by a beautiful gypsy who’s obsession with her own freedom leads to a tragic finale. It is a sensational story of seduction, jealousy, and deceit, featuring some of the famous and recognizable music in opera, including "Habanera," "Seguidilla," and the rousing Toreador Song. Bizet’s masterpiece pulsates with the spirit of Spain, making it one of Opera’s most beloved works.
