Dame Kiri Te Kanawa makes Calgary stop of Farewell Tour
Calgary, AB… On September 26 at 8pm at the Jubilee Auditorium Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Lyric-Soprano returns to Calgary as part of her Farewell Tour.
Calgary Opera is proud to present international sensation Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in recital at the Jubilee Auditorium on Wednesday 26 at 8:00pm. New Zealand born Lyric Soprano Dame Te Kanawa is one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed artists this generation, and last performed to a sold out audience in Calgary in 2001. The London Times has said of her remarkable talent, "There are things she does more eloquently than any other Soprano of our time."
“We are proud to have Dame Te Kanawa on our stage one last time on her Farewell Tour”, says W.R. (Bob) McPhee, General Director & CEO of Calgary Opera. “
Ms. Te Kanawa, who specializes in Mozart and Richard Strauss roles, became an overnight success in 1971, and in 1981 sang at Prince Charles’ and Princess Diana’s wedding. Ms. Te Kanawa has received rave reviews wherever she has performed, from the Metropolitan Opera, to the Royal Opera Covent Garden, to the Lyric Opera of Chicago. This is one of the last opportunities for Calgary audiences to hear one of the most splendid voices of our time.
