Auditions for the 2026/27 Calgary Opera Chorus
Calgary Opera announces chorus auditions for all voice types for the 2026/27 season.
Audition dates and information:
THU MAR 19, 2026 starting at 5:00 PM
SAT MAR 21, 2026 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
SUN MAR 22, 2026 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM; 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Auditions will be scheduled in 8-minute intervals. A pianist will be provided for the auditions. You may bring your own pianist if you prefer.
*Please note: The auditions will be video recorded for the chorus director’s reference. *

Mamdani Opera Centre, 1315 7 St. SW, Calgary, AB, T2R 1A5
There is limited free and paid street parking available at the Mamdani Opera Centre
2026-27 Season Productions:
TOSCA
Tentative music rehearsal start date – SEP 9, 2026 (6 music rehearsals prior to staging)
Staging rehearsal start date – SEP 26, 2026
Final show date – OCT 24, 2026
CINDERELLA
Tentative music rehearsal dates – NOV 9 – DEC 2, 2026 (8 music rehearsals prior to staging)
Staging rehearsal start date – JAN 4, 2027
Final show date – FEB 6, 2027
OTELLO
Tentative music rehearsal start date – FEB 17, 2027 (10 music rehearsals prior to staging)
Staging rehearsal start date – MAR 22, 2027
Final show date – APR 24, 2027
Honorarium:
Calgary Opera has a volunteer chorus; there will be a $650 honorarium and a $50 parking reimbursement for each opera participated in.
Audition requirements:
Returning members of Calgary Opera Chorus:
Should bring one aria which can be in French, English, or Italian; please bring a double-sided copy of the music in a binder for the pianist (no copy required for the audition panel).
Operatic arias are preferred, but a classical song is acceptable. You may be asked to sing certain phrases of the piece a second time. A brief conversation will conclude the audition.
Singers who have not previously sung in the Calgary Opera Chorus:
Should bring two contrasting selections which can be in French, English or Italian. Both selections should be in a 3-ring binder in double-sided copies for the pianist.
Operatic arias are preferred. One selection must be an aria. A classical song may be used for one of your selections. Musical theatre is acceptable as an English piece but not preferred. You may choose your first piece. One entire piece will be heard. All or part of a second selection may be requested. You may be asked to sing certain portions of one or both pieces a second time. A brief conversation will conclude the audition.
