Italian-Canadian mezzo-soprano Simona Genga possesses an "exceptional and rare voice" known for its "vocal plushness, amplitude and range" (Ludwig van Toronto/Opera Canada). The 2025/2026 season saw Simona return to the Canadian Opera Company as Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto, a role that also marked her Santa Fe Opera mainstage debut as a part of the prestigious Apprentice Artist program. On the concert stage, she joined the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Handel’s Messiah), Orchestra Toronto (Mahler’s Symphony No. 2), and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (Beethoven's Missa Solemnis) as a soloist. An alumna of the Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio and San Francisco Opera's Merola Opera Program, Simona was a 2022-2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition National Semi-Finalist, winner of the San Francisco Opera's Schwabacher Recital Series prize (2023), and Grand Prize Winner of Opera Naples' Pavarotti Competition (2025).
