Matthew Bermudez

Roderigo, Dean, Spoletta, Tenor

Filipino-Canadian tenor, Matthew Bermudez, is entering his first year as a McPhee Artist with Calgary Opera. Born and raised in London, Ontario, Matthew holds both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music from Western University. He has been featured in numerous competitions, including the Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio Competition and Opera de Montréal's Talent Gala in 2023. His most recent engagements saw him making his professional role debut with Opera Kelowna's production of La Traviata as Gastone, and returning to Western University to play the role of Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. Matthew has also taken part in a number of training programs throughout Canada, including Opera Kelowna's Valley Opera Summer Intensive Program, and the Canadian Opera Company's Summer Opera Intensive Program. He is excited to be making his company debut this season, including performances as Spoletta in Tosca, the Dean in Cinderella, as well as covering the role of Cassio and performing as Roderigo in Otello. Matthew will also play the role as the Mayor in the McPhee Artist's school tour production of The Pied Piper by Seymour Barab.
